While most users are happy with this mysterious setup, some users want to know the exact location where iTunes saves the backup of iPhone on the computer.
Where Does iTunes Save iPhone Backup on Windows Computer
The default iTunes backup location in Windows varies, depending on the way Apple’s iTunes software was installed on the computer.
If iTunes was installed on the computer from Windows store, the backup of iPhone will be saved by iTunes in MobileSync folder at path: C:\Users\UserName\Apple\MobileSync.
If iTunes was installed on the computer from app store, the backup of iPhone will be saved by iTunes in MobileSync folder located at path C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync.
How to Access iTunes Backup Location in Windows
All that is required to access iTunes backup location in Windows 11/10 is to open file explorer and navigate to location of MobileSync folder on your computer.
1. Open the File Explorer on your computer >.
2. On the File Explorer screen, navigate to C:\Users\UserName\Apple\MobileSync.
3. If you do not find MobileSync Folder at above location, go to C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync.
Note: There is no need to Show Hidden Files to locate MobileSync folder.
Does Changing iTunes Backup Location Cause Problems?
The iTunes backup/restore process works almost flawlessly on a Windows computer. Hence, our recommendation is not to change iTunes backup location.
Going by our testing, changing iTunes backup location to an External Storage Drive has lead to problems during the restore process.
While, changing iTunes backup location to desktop or folder on the desktop has worked well, it is difficult to guarantee anything when it comes to iTunes.
How to Change iTunes Backup Location in Windows 11/10
Currently, the only way to change iTunes backup location in Windows 11/10 is by creating a Symlink (Symbolic link) from the current iTunes backup location on your computer to your desired new iTunes backup location.
