It can be quite annoying to see the Google Chrome browser on your computer spitting out “Err Connection Timed Out” error code, just when you were trying to access an interesting website.
The meaning of this error code is that your request to reach the website or webpage was timed out, because the website took longer than usual time to respond to your request.
There could be various reasons for this error code, ranging from the DNS servers of your service provider being temporarily busy and to the browser cache being corrupted and other issues.
Err_Connection_Timed_Out Error in Chrome
In most cases, “Err Connection Timed Out” error in Google Chrome on a Windows 11/10 computer can be fixed by using the following troubleshooting steps.
1. Clear Chrome Browser Cache
Clear the Chrome browser Cache on your computer to rule out the possibility of the problem being caused by a cached error page or corrupted files.
1. Open Google Chrome > click on 3-dots menu icon > select Delete Browsing Data option in the drop-down menu.
2. On the next screen, switch to Advanced tab > select All Time as the Time Range > make sure Passwords and other sign-in data and Autofill form data entries are selected and click on Clear Data button.
Now, try to access the same webpage and see if the browser is still coming up with Err_Connection_Timed_Out error.
2. Power Flush Modem/Router
Most network connectivity problems can be fixed by the simple act of restarting the Modem/Router unit.
1. Disconnect the Modem/Router from its power supply source.
2. Wait for 60 seconds and re-connect the Modem/Router to its Power Supply source.
3. Wait for all the lights on the Modem/Router to light up.
Once all the lights on the Modem are switched ON, you should be able to access the internet.
3. Disable Proxy Settings
A common reason for network connectivity issues on a Windows computer is due to use of proxy servers.
1. Right-click on the Start button and click on Run.
2. In the Run Command window, type inetcpl.cpl and click on OK.
3. On internet Properties screen, switch to Connections tab and click on LAN Settings button.
4. On the next screen, uncheck Use a Proxy server for your LAN option and make sure Automatically detect settings option is selected.
5. Click on OK to save this setting on your computer.
4. Disable IPv6
Users have reported fixing Err_Connection_Timed_Out error in Chrome by disabling IPv6 protocol.
1. Click on the Start button > type Network Connections in the search bar and click on Network Connections Control Panel in the search results.
2. On the next screen, right-click on your Wi-Fi Network and click on Properties.
3. On Wi-Fi properties screen, uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) option and click on OK to save this setting.
4. On Network properties screen, uncheck Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) option and click on OK to save this setting.
After disabling IPv6, Restart the computer and try to access the internet.
5. Reset Chrome Browser
Follow the steps below to the Reset Chrome browser on your computer to its original factory default settings.
1. Open Google Chrome > click on 3-dots icon and select Settings in the drop-down menu.
Note: If you cannot open the browser, open Chrome in Incognito Mode.
2. On the Settings screen, select Reset Settings in the left-pane. In the right-pane, click on Restore Settings to their original defaults option.
3. On the confirmation pop-up, click on Reset Settings button to confirm.
After the Chrome browser is reset, try to access the internet on your computer.
6. Change DNS Server
As mentioned above, the problem could be due to the DNS servers of your Internet service provider being busy or going through problems.
In such cases, you can consider switching to Google’s Public DNS service or other free Public DNS providers like OpenDNS and Cloudflare.

7. Reinstall Chrome Browser
If above steps did not help, the problem could be due to installation of Google Chrome or Chrome User Profile being corrupted.
The solution in this case is to remove and Reinstall Google Chrome browser on your computer.
