Shape, Size and Casing
Apple Watch Series 2 is quite similar to Apple Watch Series 1 with a square display covering a glass screen, which mainly indicates time and displays notifications.

Brighter Display
Apple Watch Series 2 boasts an OLED Retina display with a screen resolution of 290 ppi in 38mm model and 313 ppi in the 42mm model.
According to Apple, the display on Apple Watch Series 2 is two times brighter than the original Apple Watch. This should help you clearly see the screen even in bright sunlight.
Faster Processor and GPU
Apple Watch Series 2 is powered by Apple’s new lighting fast dual-core processor called S2. The new processor is 50% faster than the one in original Apple Watch, which is also receiving the same upgrade to its processor.
Apple has also upgraded the GPU in Apple Watch Series 2, doubling the graphics performance. Much improvement in performance is expected after upgrading to WatchOS3, which will bring the software tweaks to make the most out of the new processor and GPU.

Apple Watch Series 2 is rated water resistant up to 50 meters depth. This means that you can safely wear your Apple Watch while showering and swimming.

According to Apple, the software is based on analysis of over 700 swimmers for multiple years and is designed to learn from your habits and tailor its measurements.
GPS Capability
Apple Watch Series 2 has a built-in GPS that allows the device to perform mapping on its own, without the need for an iPhone. This allows you to leave your iPhone at home whenever you go for a run and still accurately record distance, speed, and pace while you are walking, running, or cycling.
A notable feature of the GPS in Apple Watch 2 is that it has been designed to pick up a signal right away, so you don’t have to wait for a signal at any time.
After completion of your run or walk, you can check your iPhone to see a map of your route and where you ran the fastest.
Health Monitor and Workout App
Apple Watch Series 2 has a sensor on the back which measures your heart rate throughout the day. The data is sent to your iPhone, where you can take a look at your heart rate patterns over a period of time.
There is a native workout app on Apple Watch Series 2 that allows you to choose from 12 indoor and outdoor workouts, including swimming, biking, running, and elliptical.
Next, there is a Breath App that helps you to practice mindfulness and with beautiful animation and guidance for deep breathing. In addition, Apple Watch Series 2 allows you to add third party apps that you may find useful and applicable to your health conditions.
On its website Apple suggest Third Part Apps like “One Drop” to manage diabetes, “Pocket Yoga” to help you practice Yoga and “WaterMinder” app to set your daily hydration goals.

The base version of Apple Watch Seres 2 is priced at $369 and will be available for Pre-orders starting from September 9.
