The most convenient way to transfer files between two Apple devices is to use AirDrop, which allows you to wirelessly transfer files, photos and videos from iPhone to Mac and other devices.
The AirDrop feature makes use of Bluetooth to locate nearby devices and Wi-Fi technology to wirelessly transfer data between two Apple devices. Hence, the first step is to make sure that both iPhone and Mac are connected to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The next step is to enable the AirDrop feature both on sending (iPhone in this case) and the recieving device (Mac in this case).
1. Setup AirDrop on iPhone
Follow the steps below to make sure that iPhone is connected to Bluetooth and setup to transfer files using AirDrop.
1. Open Settings > tap on Bluetooth > on the next screen, move the toggle next to Bluetooth to ON position.
2. Next, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > move the toggle next to Wi-Fi to ON position.
3. After this, go to Settings > General > Airdrop > select the Everyone option.
Note: While you can also select Contacts Only option, it can sometimes lead to problems.
The above steps ensure that your iPhone is ready to send and receive Files using AirDrop.
2. Setup AirDrop on Mac
Follow the steps below to make sure that your MacBook is connected to Bluetooth and setup to receive files using AirDrop.
1. Click on the Bluetooth Icon in top menu-bar (top-right corner) and move the toggle next to Bluetooth to ON position.
2. Similarly, select the Wi-Fi icon located in the top-menu bar and move the toggle next to Wi-Fi to ON position.
3. Next, click on the Finder icon located in the taskbar > click on the Go tab in top-menu bar and select AirDrop in the drop-down menu.
4. On the AirDrop screen, click on Allow me to be Discovered by option and select Everyone from the drop-down.
Note: If iPhone is not listed, unlock iPhone by entering its Lock Screen Passcode.
3. AirDrop Photos from iPhone to Mac
After configuring AirDrop on both sending (iPhone) and Receiving (Mac) devices, you can follow the steps below to wirelessly transfer photos from iPhone to Mac.
1. Open the Photos App on your iPhone.
2. Select Photos that you want to transfer and tap on the Share icon located in bottom menu (bottom-left corner).
3. From the sharing menu that appears, select the AirDrop option.
4. On the next screen, select the Device (Your Mac) to which you want to transfer Photos.
The selected Photos will be immediately transferred to your Mac and they will be available in the Downloads Folder on your Mac.
AirDrop Photos Not Showing on Mac
If the Photos are not being transferred from iPhone to Mac, you can follow the steps below to fix the problem.
1. Click on the Finder Icon > select Go tab in top-menu bar and click on AirDrop.
2. On the next screen, click on Accept to allow File Transfer between iPhone and Mac.
